What criteria are used for assessing my application?

For information on the miniumum general requirement for admission to a graduate research degree refer to Rule 5.8.4. The criteria used to judge an individual's case for admission as a candidate in a Master's by Thesis or doctoral degree at UTS are:

  1. Significance and originality of the proposed research;
  2. Student's expertise in the field of study proposed;
  3. Student's knowledge of methodology;
  4. Understanding of the research process and timing;
  5. Feasibility of completion in minimum time;
  6. General capacity of the student to complete higher study;
  7. Match between student and supervisors;
  8. Availability of resources to support the student and research work.

A point based system is used for the distribution of postgraduate research scholarships and for determining the Research Training Scheme (RTS) scores of applicants. Applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the scoring system and use it as a tool to assist them in preparing a complete application.
