Support Schemes for UTS Research Students

Thesis Completion Equity Grants

As part of its Equity Strategy, the University offers a number of grants to local students undertaking postgraduate research degrees who demonstrate financial need and belong to one or more of the equity target groups.

The Scheme provides grants of up to $5,000, assisting students, estimated to be within six months of thesis completion, in establishing a block of time for concentrated work to finalise their thesis.

The equity target groups identified for this purpose are:

  • Students on a low income
  • Women in non-traditional areas of study:
    • Accounting
    • Finance and Economics
    • Applied Physics
    • Architecture
    • Building Studies
    • Engineering
    • Information Technology
  • Students with disabilities
  • Indigenous Australians
  • Students from non-English speaking backgrounds
  • Students with primary care responsibilities

Vice-Chancellor’s Postgraduate Research Student Conference Fund

The Vice-Chancellor makes funds available each year to assist postgraduate research students to participate in academic conferences. The funds are allocated by the Research Students Conference Fund Committee on a competitive basis using the guidelines and a point scoring system. There are three opportunities to apply for funding throughout the year: October, March and June.

2008 (Round 3) Applications close Friday 11th July 2008 - This round covers conferences to be held in September, October, November and December 2008 only

Students who receive a grant through the Vice-Chancellor's Postgraduate Research Student Conference Fund must provide a report within two months of attending the conference.
