International Research scholarships

The following UTS Research scholarships are available to support international students to study Masters by Research and Doctoral programs at UTS which are managed by the University Graduate School. Applications are only open once a year. Other scholarship opportunities for international students can be found on the UTS: scholarships website.

For prospective students:

To apply, please submit the UTS International Higher Degree Research Application Form for both the degree and scholarship(s) through UTS: International by the advertised deadline (Applicants who submitted an application for the IPRS will automatically be considered for the UTS IRS, APA and UTSP scholarships). To apply, please submit the completed HDR scholarship application form for current students with a CV by the advertised deadline.

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) program is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR). The objective of the IPRS is to maintain and develop international research linkages and to attract top quality international postgraduate research students to areas of research strength within Australian tertiary Institutions. The number of IPRS on offer varies from year to year and in 2012, four (4) scholarships were offered at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).

The IPRS covers the tuition fees for a period of two years for a Research Masters degree or three years for a Research Doctorate degree and the cost of a standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the scholarship holder and their dependant(s). Applicants awarded the IPRS must commence their studies in the year of award. Applicants who are successful in receiving an IPRS will also be awarded the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) living allowance scholarship.

International Research Scholarships (UTS IRS)

The UTS International Research Scholarship (UTS IRS) is provided by the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) as part of its long term commitment to internationalisation with a particular view to enhancing its international links and profile in research.  It is aimed at attracting high quality international students to work in areas of research strength. Each year, UTS offers up to 60 IRS to eligible candidates who demonstrate exceptional research potential.

The UTS IRS only covers the tuition fees for a period of two years for a Research Masters degree or three years for a Research Doctorate degree. The UTS IRS Scholarship is not transferable to another institution.

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)

The Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) Scheme is funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR). From 2011 onwards, APAs are now awarded to international applicants who have been successful in receiving an IPRS scholarship. The APA covers general living expenses for a period of two years for a Research Masters degree or three years for a Research Doctorate degree. In 2012 the amount per annum for this scholarship was A$23,728.

UTS President’s Scholarship (UTSP)

The UTS President’s scholarship (UTSP) is provided by the University to international students who demonstrate exceptional research potential. The UTSP covers general living expenses for a period of two years for a Research Masters degree or three years for a Research Doctorate degree. In 2012 the amount per annum for this scholarship was A$23,728. The UTSP scholarship is not transferable to another institution.
